Meet your BIBO Crystalrock

What is the BIBO crystalrock?

The BIBO crystalrock is a compact under-counter water filtration unit that purifies your mains cold water supply before delivering it to your faucet. It combines multi-stage filtration with a built-in UV reactor to remove impurities and harmful micro-organisms, giving you clean, great-tasting water on demand.

The crystalrock is designed to work either as a standalone filtration unit paired with the BIBO Rock 4-in-1 or 2-in-1 Faucets , or as part of a broader BIBO system alongside any of the other BIBO plumbed in machines. The crystalrock is most typically used under counter paired with the BIBO hotrock and or icerock.

The BIBO Logo — Your Status Indicator

The BIBO logo on the front of your crystalrock glows in different colours to give you a clear, at-a-glance status of the unit. Refer to the table below at any time to understand what your crystalrock is telling you.

Installing Your BIBO Crystalrock

Before You Begin

If you have any uncertainty about any step in the installation process, please stop and call us on 0800 00 BIBO (2426) to speak to one of our experienced technical team members. An incorrect installation could result in leaks or damage to your property.

WARNING: Do NOT plug the crystalrock into a power outlet until the water connections have been completed and the water supply has been turned on. Running the UV reactor dry can cause permanent damage.

What You Will Need

  • Adjustable spanner or wrench

  • BIBO compatible Faucet

  • ½” male-to-male BSP nipple connector (for bypassing if other BIBO modules are not installed)

  • Bucket and cloth for catching any water

Siting Your Crystalrock

The crystalrock is designed to be installed under the sink or kitchen counter, close to your cold water supply. Before choosing a location, please consider the following:

  • Install in a cool, dry location. Keep away from heat sources.

  • Ensure there is access to a nearby mains cold water supply.

  • Ensure there is a standard 3-pin electrical socket nearby.

  • The unit must not be installed outdoors or in direct sunlight.

  • Allow sufficient clearance around the unit for hose connections and future filter access.

Installation with the BIBO Rock 4-in-1 Arc Faucet (Crystalrock Only — No additional modules such as the hotrock and icerock)

If you are installing the crystalrock on its own, follow these instructions together with the BIBO Rock Arc Faucet installation guide (steps 1–7), and note the additional step below to bypass the hotrock connection.

Step 1 — Install the faucet

  1. Insert the rubber washer (B) over the hoses and the faucet shank, then insert the faucet shank through the mounting hole in the counter top or sink.

  2. Slide the rubber gasket (C), then the metal washer (D), and finally the mounting nut (E) over the hoses and onto the faucet shank. Hand-tighten firmly.

  3. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to tighten the two mounting nut screws (E).

Helpful tip: Feed hoses H, I, L and K (labelled 1, 2, 5 and 4) through the mounting hole first, then feed hose J (labelled 3) last for easier fitting.

Step 2 — Connect the cold water supply

  1. Connect the three-way connector (F) onto the cold water angle stop valve.

  2. Connect the cold water supply hose (I, labelled 2) onto the vertical port of the three-way connector. Secure with a spanner.

Step 3 — Connect the hot water supply

  1. Connect the hot water supply hose (H, labelled 1) onto the hot water angle stop valve. Secure with a spanner.

Step 4 — Connect the crystalrock

  1. Connect the crystalrock inlet hose (G) onto the horizontal port of the three-way connector (F). Secure with a spanner.
  2. Push the 6mm LLDPE white tube (M) firmly into the push fitting at the end of the crystalrock inlet hose (G). Push the other end of tube M into the inlet port on the crystalrock, which is clearly labelled INLET.

  3. Push the second 6mm LLDPE white tube (M) firmly into the push fitting labelled ‘crystalrock outlet’ on the faucet assembly. Push the other end into the outlet port on the crystalrock, which is clearly labelled OUTLET.

Step 5 — Bypass the hotrock and or icerock (crystalrock-only installations)

Because there is no hotrock or icerock in this installation, the boiling water pipe loop must be closed off. Do this by connecting a ½” male-to-male BSP nipple connector between hose pipe 3 (the hotrock inlet hose, K) and hose pipe 5 (the hotrock outlet hose, L). This creates a closed loop so that the faucet operates correctly without a hotrock or icerock being present.

WARNING: Do not leave hose pipes 3 or 5 open or uncapped. An open pipe will result in an uncontrolled water flow.

Step 6 — Turn on the water and check for leaks

  1. Turn on the cold and hot water angle stop valves.
  2. Check all connections carefully for any signs of leaks. Tighten if necessary.

  3. After you have confirmed there are no leaks, plug the crystalrock power cable into a standard 3-pin socket.

  4. Flush at least 5 litres of water through the crystalrock via the filtered water side of the faucet before drinking. This primes the filter and clears any manufacturing residue.

Step 7 — Power on the crystalrock

  1. Switch the unit on using the power switch.
  2. The BIBO logo should glow blue, indicating that the unit is operating normally.

The BIBO logo should glow blue, indicating that the unit is operating normally.

Before beginning the installation, you will need to identify a mains cold water supply nearby.

To identify the cold water supply, turn on the hot tap and wait for the flowing water to get hot. Feel both pipes under the sink. The one hot to the touch is the hot water supply. WARNING: the pipe can get extremely hot and cause burns. Please take care! The mains cold water supply will need to be turned off before beginning the installation.

Often there is an angle stop valve which will enable you to isolate the cold water pipe. If not, then it will be necessary to turn off the mains water supply to your home/ office. Please identify where the tap/isolation valve is located before beginning. Ensure that your water feed/ supply is flushed out thoroughly into a bucket until clear water is visible with no sediments or dirt particles in the water.

This is to ensure your BIBO express does not block up. Be sure to do so especially in newly renovated homes and offices.

Using your BIBO Crystalrock

Daily Use

Using your crystalrock is effortless. Once installed and powered on, it operates continuously in the background, purifying your water supply before it reaches the faucet.

Simply turn on the filtered water side of your faucet and enjoy clean, UV-purified water. There are no buttons to press or settings to adjust during normal use.

The Power Switch

The BIBO logo on the front of your crystalrock gives you instant feedback on the health of the unit. Under normal operation, it glows a steady blue. Please refer to the LED status table in the ‘Meet Your BIBO Crystalrock’ section for a full description of all status indicators.

If the logo is flashing yellow, turn off the water supply and power immediately and contact BIBO support. A leak inside the unit requires professional attention.

Maintaining your BIBO Crystalrock

Filter Replacement

To ensure that your crystalrock continues to deliver clean, safe water, the filter must be replaced at regular intervals. BIBO recommends replacing the filter every 12 months under normal use. Your crystalrock will indicate that the filter has been removed or is unseated by displaying a solid purple BIBO logo light.

The simplest way to stay on top of filter replacements is to sign up for our filters@home debit order programme. We track your filter usage and send your replacement filter to your door before it expires. Contact us at hello@bibo.co.za or 0800 00 BIBO (2426) to find out more.

The BIBO express is connected to an electrical supply. Please take caution to not wet the back of the BIBO express whilst cleaning it.

To keep your BIBO express looking sparkly and fresh, clean it by simply wiping it down with a dry fibre cloth. Please don’t use harsh detergents, concentrated washing liquids or solvents to clean your BIBO express.

Additionally, please avoid anything abrasive (such as steel brushes, scourers and the like) to clean the body of your BIBO express as it will scratch. The BIBO express drip tray can be removed and cleaned by hand or in your dishwasher.

To replace the filter:

  1. Switch the power off

  2. Remove the lid of the crystalrock.

  3. Remove the old filter by turning it anti-clockwise and lifting it out.

  4. Remove the new filter from its packaging and insert it, turning clockwise to lock.

  5. Replace the lid.

  6. Turn the water supply back on and check for leaks.

  7. Switch the power back on. The BIBO logo should return to a steady blue.

Please dispose of used filters responsibly. Contact BIBO for information on our filter recycling programme.

Cleaning

To keep your crystalrock clean and hygienic, wipe down the exterior with a damp cloth. You may use a mild, non-abrasive detergent. Do not use harsh chemicals, concentrated solvents or abrasive materials such as steel wool or scourers, as these will damage the unit.

The crystalrock is connected to both water and electrical supplies. Never immerse the unit in water. Ensure the power is switched off before cleaning the exterior.

Extended Non-Use

If you will not be using the crystalrock for an extended period, we recommend turning off the unit at the power switch and closing the angle stop valve on the cold water supply. When restarting after a prolonged period of non-use, flush at least 5 litres of water through the unit before drinking.
